GIS in K-12 Education

VERTICES is committed to providing GIS technology in K-12 Education. We work with various educational and community organizations to promote using GIS for all grade levels. While teaching geospatial technology is one thing, our approach is to engage and interact with technology for a more enriching learning experience. VERTICES has its own portal for GIS in K-12 Education, GIS4Kids.com.

Here are some examples of our latest community mapping projects:

  • Ramapo College RST2 program
Revitalizing Science Teaching through Remote Sensing Technology (RST2) is a resource for student teachers enrolled in “Tools for Visualizing Information” where they use GIS as a visual aid to reinforce their existing lesson plans.
  • Kidzmap.com
This combines different kinds of maps that can be used by students in grades K-12. This type of learning emphasizes research skills, problem solving, computer skills, and many other dynamic learning qualities.
  • Utah’s GIS 4 K-12 Project
This project is a combination of different mapping projects and concepts. Some of these include teaching students safe routes to school, the importance of healthy lifestyles, and the impact of their carbon footprint on the environment.
